Reading

I'm reading The Sound and The Fury right now. Very interesting book. It's a little hard to follow though because the author likes to write in a stream-of-thought sort of way. I've read around three paragraphs worth of text and there is no period in sight.

One day

I thought to myself "I am twenty-three years old. Which means I have about fifty or sixty years to live." I mean, I could be one of the lucky few that make it to ninety... but who can predict that?

People always ask "If you only had one day to live, what would you do?" Many respond that they would do something that they have always wanted to do. Nobody ever asks "If you only had fifty years to live, what would you do?"

Would you do everything you ever wanted to do? But most people don't. You have the intention and even the motivation half of the time but with so much time to spare you put it off. You think "Next year, next year I'll do it!" and before you know it five years go by... then ten years... then your life keeps going and that dream you had seems to be losing flavor and before you know it you start thinking "Ahhh well, I didn't really want to do it anyway." And then your life is gone.

I wonder if I'm going to lie on my deathbed and feel regret and emptiness. Well... I got around five decades to decide on that.
